Lustre: Ten New Year’s Resolutions.

By Erica and Karen

Do you actually define, and then execute, New Year’s resolutions? We don’t really, but last year we had two–-to update the Lustre website, and to find a virtual administrative assistant. We did both! Fern, our new assistant, is a lifesaver. And we’ll tell you more about our website soon.

Meanwhile, here are ten Lustre goals we plan to aim for, so we’ll call them resolutions for 2023:

  1. Have a Lustre in-person event in Paris.

  2. Meet more cool people to showcase in our events and on the site–including you, our readers.

  3. Make Lustre revenue positive.

  4. Figure out a way to negotiate the rent for our WeWork office from going up.

  5. Get the computer monitor in that office working.

  6. Learn how to use makeup better so the pictures we have taken for Lustre look even more divine.

  7. Travel to some of the places recommended by our readers on the Lustre List.

  8. Connect with designers so we can have more clothes designed for the cool and stylish women we all are.

  9. Get people to stop using words like senior and elderly. Give them demerits on social media.

  10. Have twice as much fun as last year.

What are your resolutions?

We want to hear what you have to say.

    1. Give gratitude daily for hard work paying off and share with others.
    2. Find at least four new artists to present in the gallery at Arts in the Burg.
    3. Visit my daughter in CT.
    4. Mentor Kayla and help her to keep on track with her education and job search.
    5. Take at least two design classes on line.
    6. Complete trip to Paris and London in fall that is schedule and paid for.
    7. Focus increasing my flexibility by completing the 30 day YOGA challenge.
    8. Get healthier by working out at least four times per week.
    9. Get rid of unnecessary jewelry and "stuff" from the move from a very large house to a smaller one.
    1. Not sure we need words. If a person is 75, we can refer to that person as 75. Do we need a further characterization? If we need to refer to a group of women in their 70s, maybe Lustre Ladies, or maybe wise ones! (We admit, we have had difficulty coming up with good words!)

  1. Recognize that my intentions are worth revisiting each and every month. Such as:

Do something new or different each month. Might be as simple as trying a new recipe or a return to an abandoned art or hobby.
Go to a new destination at least once a year, Does not have to be exotic!
Remember to reach out to those struggling (we all are in one way or another!)
Build on what is working, whether with diet, exercise or relationships. Improvement comes with ‘baby steps’.
Allow for quiet time or reflection/meditation because our minds get so flooded with the ‘to do’s!’

  2. Hi!
I just returned from a holiday trip to Paris where literary walking tours were the highlight.
During the pandemic lockdown, one of the on-line activities that saved my sanity was The Paris Literary Salon. Two ex-pats, one a creative writing professor at The Sorbonne and the other a film critic and writer, are the moderators. We read and discuss books with French settings. Both of these guys are fabulous raconteurs and each have a wealth of knowledge to share in the most fun way! Here are links to Samuel Lopez-Barrantes and John Baxter’s websites:

  3. I have been following Lustre for several months and recently retired at the end of November 2022. I am 70, but certainly don’t feel it. I am happily thinking this may be the most exciting time in my life.
Let’s work to achieve New Year’s resolution # 9. At a recent meeting with a health care professional she referred to me as sprightly. My new pcp called me elderly. Grr! Why do we need these labels?
Blessings to all for a year of good health and much joy in 2023!

  4. I like the energy, flow, fun and purpose of Lustre. I do like your resolutions. I call mine commitments. If they are not working, I get to tweak or drop them.
I start my day in meditation and prayer. I have a day planner that keeps me on track with what I want to accomplish that day or appointments I have. If I complete 30%, I am a Happy camper! My husband and I have two trips scheduled for this year, France and the Caribbean. Our French adventure is two weeks touring with strangers, who we hope will become friends! My biggest commitment is to declutter the entire house and the garage. It’s not messy, just don’t look in the closets. We down sized, moved 1,000 miles and built a new home four years ago. We still have boxes. My first commitment is to have fun and be a blessing to someone everyday. Could be a note, a visit, a text or a phone call.
