It’s Fall. Time For A Fashion Plan.

By Karen and Erica
Yes. It’s true. Fall is coming Is your wardrobe up to date?
Probably your closet will provide all you need to get your wardrobe in top form. But here are some ideas you may wish to highlight.
First, apparently the fashion world is still interested in what appeals to women. Indeed, some are talking about femininities–whatever they are.Â
Conversations throughout fashion month centered on ideas about femininity in fashion. This came up both in terms of the clothes on the runways as well as the collections we saw from female creative directors. “What does femininity mean today?” read the show notes at Prada as Miuccia Prada and Raf Simons set out to examine the archetypes of female dressing and poke holes in the notion of feminine perfection. The concept was explored at Miu Miu as well with a show titled Femininities that was “an evaluation of the feminine” as expressed through clothing—a theme that carried across the collections this season. Prada and stylist Lotta Volkova explored different notions of femininity throughout the show, including emblems such as brooches, stoles, and bullet bras. For her debut collection at Givenchy, Burton paid homage to the atelier’s origins through a distinctly female point of view, reinterpreting iconic silhouettes from the archives such as hourglass shapes and evening gowns. At Schiaparelli, too, the collection was centered on women, and Daniel Roseberry reimagined Old Hollywood glamour through a female lens.
How has all of that translated this fall?Â
First–coats. We have no interest in putting coats back on–but we know we will have to. So what do we need to be stylish? Apparently, vintage-inspired coats. According to Elle magazine, here’s the big news:
If you were keeping a tab on the biggest street style trends during the fall/winter 2025 fashion month, then you already know vintage-inspired faux fur and shearling coats are having a newfound renaissance—and it isn’t stopping there. Plenty of designers featured the wintry staple on their runways, including Gucci, Fendi, and Tod’s. If that’s not a hint to get in on the trend now, I’m not sure what is.
Here’s an example, from Zadig & Voltaire, of a vintage faux fur.
Faux vintage, fur or otherwise, is perfect for us. Many of us have coats that are actual vintage, because we’ve had them so long. We’ll be the coolest ones of all!
Next. The big fall color: purple!!!
The color of the season is shaping up to be a playful one. Runways were splashed with all shades of purple, from rich wine at Tibi and Lanvin to juicy, artificial purple at Auralee and Dries Van Noten. And that’s just the beginning: boots at Miu Miu, coats at Versace, dresses at Altuzarra, and bottoms at Gucci all went purple.Â
So great that fall clothes are not limited to earth tones. Some love earth tones. Some don’t. Lots of colors look wonderful in the fall. Even white. Purple does, for sure.Â
We love purple. In our view, everyone looks regal in purple. And just like vintage outerwear, most of us have some very cool purple options in our closets. For example, you may have a dress like this–an elegant halter top evening gown. And if you do, you must also have a place to wear it. with a faux fur. Good for you!
Fall shirts need to be warm. And fabulous. We love this one from Johnny Was. Velvet corduroy is so luxurious, and we love the colors–a range from aqua to midnight. Check your closet to see if you might have a jazzier belt, though, that might better define your waist and highlight the color. And then find a midnight charmeuse skirt that might have a good conversation with the top, like this one dancing on its hanger.
Shirts, of course, are not enough. You need fleece, too. LL Bean offers this short jacket in a delightful sunny yellow–which in our view would go very well with purple trousers. Surely you have some, but if not, these would be splendid. And this striped Uniqlo skirt goes with the jacket and purple boots!
Now back to coats. Vintage is good, but maybe the coat has to be purple too. Here’s a nice idea. And a purple and yellow scarf to pull everything together.
Finally, earrings. Again, check your jewelry case, and try to find some radiant yellow balls like these, or some like these purple and green resin wonders. We love resin jewelry–light, shaped, colorful–whatever the season.
However you do it, stride into fall in regal purple, and sunny yellow, and fluid aqua, and show them you’ve got your finger on the fashion pulse!
Thanks for the fall inspiration. I will look for my purples. For those of us in the warmer states, our focus is not on coats and corduroys, but we can incorporate the idea with jackets or layers. While we may not get beautiful foliage in nature, we mark the change of season in decor and in our attitudes.
