How Should Older People Live? With Younger People, In Color.

By Erica and Karen

We do not believe in segregating people over forty from the rest of the universe, sticking them in retirement homes with their own kind and relegating them to spending their days day playing golf or Go Fish. We also believe in showing our generation as we are—stylish, lively and energetic.

We were pretty excited to come across a webpage for a new sort of community—the “age old village”—that seemed right on target. This new (to us) enterprise is Priya Living, which appears to have three communities and another on the way, all on the West Coast. Priya espouses colorful and intergenerational living. (We think New York City embodies exactly those ideas, but we know not everyone shares this particular passion.) The company is apparently aimed at Indian Americans, but we can’t see why is it not an idea that would suit many people.

Truthfully, what drew us to Priya was its website. It is lively and fun, colorful and quirky. Not at all like the Golden Years creations of the 50s. And we love the idea of an intergenerational community that provides assistance to those who need it.

Bravo, Priya.
