Ten Ideas That Have Nothing To Do With COVID-19 but Are Enabled By The Lockdown.

By Karen and Erica

At home and wishing you were not? Here are some things that will take you to another place or time, or let you plan for celebrating at home after you can leave.

  1. See America through the eyes of some famous photographers. Or see America today through Fotografiska.

  2. Gather your family or Zoom your friends and act out a short play. And get yourself a cool background.

  3. Make some artsy food. Did you know Andy Warhol had recipes? They are as you might expect—one actually glitters. Or just make food art.

  4. Read some erudite articles published over the years by the London Review of Books, which is now publishing one each weekday out from behind its paywall. Here’s an example.

  5. Dress up as your favorite painting (with or without your partner), and publish yourself on Instagram. Here are some ideas. Or think about when you can go back to your favorite museum and do this.

  6. Watch World On Fire. People caught up in the Second World War. Beautiful and engrossing. And you will realize the war we are fighting is hard but not like WWII. For a different, and filmic, take on the same war, see Their Finest. You will laugh, but… keep the tissues handy.

  7. How much do you know about women artists? Find out more by visiting the National Museum of Women in the Arts. Virtually, of course.

  8. Pick out a new hairstyle for when you get back to your stylist, and fantasize about how great that day will be.

  9. Learn how to make cocktails. And how to make hors d’oeuvres to go with them. Dream about that cocktail party you will have in a few months to show off your new hairdo.

  10. Imagine getting flowers back into your home, and arranging them like a pro.
