Dress For Sparkle This Holiday Season.
By Karen and Erica
The holidays are almost here, and we have to look good. So we need a game plan. Here are some playful style principles we follow.
As always, we start with color. Then we look for cool combinations that work with each other. It’s holiday time, so of course we go for sparkle and gold. It’s winter, so what we choose needs to be at least moderately warm. Here are some ideas to illustrate what we are thinking.
-
Winter White. We like white all year round, but in winter it is particularly fun. White trousers, like these. A sequined white jacket to go with them. A simple white silk top. (Washable!) A necklace of large glass pearls. Red booties.
-
Emerald Green. An unusual emerald silk velvet trench made to your measurements by Gabrielle. These totally retro shoes might work with it. Amethyst earrings. A toasty purple shawl? Too much?
-
Striking Scarlet. A warm red coat. A white faux fur bucket hat! Really tall black patent leather boots. Red dangly chandelier earrings. (Remember Paco Rabanne???)
-
Glittering Gold. A long gold pleated skirt. A white turtleneck. Long gold earrings. Sparkly shoes.
-
Bright Blue. Cobalt leather pants. A silver cowlneck. A unique silver cuff. Silver shoes.
These ideas, freely interpreted, should get us through the holidays! The only thing left is to find some fun places to wear sparkly outfits. Luckily, this year everyone seems to want to party.
What will you wear this season?
