Ten Gifts We Might Give To Those Who Are Naughty In a Nice Way.

By Erica and Karen

Holiday shopping started before Halloween. Replete with Hanukkah and Christmas decorations. That was way too soon. But now, we are ready. Here are ten ideas:

  1. A museum membership. There are many to choose, wherever you live. We love art, and design. But there’s so much more than that out there in the museum world. Surfing. Aviation. Film. Archeology. Anything and everything.

  2. Books. And maybe a book bag. We were quite taken with the gift shop at the New York Public Library.

  3. One of our friends just showed us an immersion blender. Genius. How have we missed this? Would make a grand gift for a cook.

  4. Spices. A beautiful box of spices would brighten anyone’s holiday.

  5. MasterClass. Chefs. Astronauts. Philosophers. Many many accomplished and entertaining people to educate and entertain you. Perfect if you are not sure where the recipient’s interests lie.

  6. If we can find one, a whole truffle packed in rice. Because the smell is the most amazing smell on earth. A very good friend might deserve such a treat.

  7. A donation in the recipient’s honor to a favorite non-profit. If you don’t know how to choose, we suggest a local food bank. They need help, and the recipient surely knows the value of eating.

  8. Tickets to a play. We can at last go to the theater again. Hallelujah!

  9. A warm scarf. Something to color a bleak winter day.

  10. Homemade sugar cookies in holiday shapes with gaudy icing and colored sprinkles, packed in a fanciful tin.

And what about your? Any special gift ideas?

We want to hear what you have to say.

  1. Please remember health care workers: the doctors who were there for you, the clinic receptionists who responded to your calls… don’t take their dedication for granted.
Ditto local library staff who made sure to keep us all stocked with reading material until the premises opened their doors again…
Gifts? For a group, big boxes of cookies with good-quality coffee pods for their break-room; for individuals, a gift card or a gorgeous flowering plant.

  2. 3 on Lustre’s list above is an immersion blender.

This has to be, hands down, the most overlooked and under-appreciated kitchen appliance. Some brands now package a mixing bowl with the blender, so you can chop nuts and whip up pates or other smashed goodies.
