Cosmetics: Ten New Ideas For Your Zoom Self. And Your Actual Body.
By Erica and Karen
Makeup has been a particular challenge during the pandemic. How do you "dress" your face for a zoom call? What, if anything should you do differently now that you're inside more than out? And what about manicures and pedicures and facials? We've gone back to a few basics, tried our daughters’ suggestions, and actually found some new things we like all by ourselves.
-
We aren’t really into fake eyelashes, but it turns out we didn’t need to be. Hawrych MD Lash and Mascara actually works. The best part was that we also used the Lash applicator on our eyebrows and they grew back in!
-
Our absolutely new favorite thing is erborian, a Korean skin cream that smooths and makes your skin look radiant, without feeling like you have any makeup on at all! It comes in a few shades.
-
We keep coming back to Thayers facial toner. All natural witch hazel with aloe vera. Cleans, tones, moisturizes. Not expensive or fancy. We like the rose petal one. You can get it just about anywhere—including Target and Amazon.
-
There is actually nothing better for hands than L’Occitane cream. We’ve tried many others. But always come back to this one.
-
Except for those of us who love lemons. For us there is J.R. Watkins Lemon Cream. A pleasure for many senses!
-
Face masks have replaced facials. Dr. Barbara Sturm’s Clarifying Mask is expensive, but works. Try her other skincare products too. We also like, also expensive, Orlane.
-
For do it yourself manicures, Olive and June has the best applicator brush. And then there’s always Le Vernis by Chanel for a classic red toenail.
-
Puffy eyes used to be a thing for late nights out. They are still a thing, mainly from lack of sleep. Try a Jade Roller. Sounds ridiculous but it works.
-
We may be back to do it yourself hair color. We’ve tried a few brands, but even our hairdresser thinks dpHue is a good one.
-
Lipstick? Why even think about it these days? Because you need to exaggerate for Zoom! And to prepare for 2021! Here’s a MAC fire engine red we love.
We’re going to try some new things for the holidays. Stay tuned.
