A Rocking Chair And Seven Good Books.

A long time ago, someone gave one of us the perfect winter gift: a rocking chair, the entire Lord Peter Wimsey series, and a bottle of cognac.

We still think reading a wonderful book while rocking, with or without a fire, is the height of winter luxury. Here is a list of some books we might suggest if you have everything else you need:

• The Snow Child, Eowyn Ivey. A retelling of a fantastical folk tale. Beautiful.

• A Christmas Memory, Truman Capote. Capote’s writing is just amazing.

• A Christmas Carol, Charles Dickens. Of course you have read it before, so you know you should read it again. And see the movie.

• Holidays on Ice, David Sederis. Funny stories, and some not so funny. Excellent writing.

• The Polar Express, Chris van Alsberg. Yes, it is a children’s book, but perfect. You will enjoy it.

• The Gift Of The Magi, O. Henry. A heartwarming tale for the season. Yes, you probably have read this too.

• The Christmas Bookshop: A Novel, Jenny Colgan. Do you love bookstores?
