Have You Ever Made A Wardrobe Mistake?
By Erica and Karen
Have you ever found a stunning dress at a stunning discount? Did you try it on, and think, well, maybe it is a little tight but what a good price? Or maybe you didn’t think you had to try it on—surely it would fit. Did you then buy the dress (on final sale) and put it on for an evening out? And did you then face the harsh reality, thanks to your bathroom mirror, that the whole thing was just a huge mistake?
What then?
One of us has indeed fallen for an enticing dress because it is beautiful and on sale. Then was dismayed by how it looked. In fact, more than once! Whenever that happens, she feels compelled to wear the dress a few times. As a punishment. Then she gives it away.
The other one would never make such a mistake—but she has been known to buy fabulous shoes—with sparkles—that are actually too small, thinking perhaps the sparkles will expand. Her Lustre partner is the lucky beneficiary of one such misjudgment.
We know a few people who, having not shopped for clothes in the last two years, were over-exuberant on their return to the apparel market. Sometimes we can see what they might have been thinking. Maybe that the slinky look would suddenly suit them. Or maybe that the seventies are in again, so embroidered bell bottoms would be cool. Sometimes, we have no idea what they might have been thinking. Very few people can carry off yards and yards of puce tulle.
Now that we are older, we are more than ever geared to take risks. And we definitely enjoy taking wardrobe risks. However—we should have learned by now that shoes too small and dresses too tight are risks without rewards. But the adventure of it all sometimes tricks us!
