Ten Spring Dress Ideas.

By Erica and Karen

Spring starts today! Almost time to put away all those puffy black coats and pants and sweaters and socks and boots that we never want to see again–or at least not for a while–and put on some dresses!  With flowers and colors and maybe some swing. At last!!!

So where would we look for inspiration? Here are ten ideas. (We do wish these designers would use models in a range of ages, but they don’t. You’ll look great in dresses from any of them anyway!)

  • Start where it all began–Diane von Furstenburg. You remember those wrap dresses that jump-started your career? Get a gorgeous one for spring and jump-start something totally modern!

  • Eileen Fisher takes direct aim at people like us–for which we are grateful. Her dresses are simple and elegant, like this linen one in neon yellow. (Her colors are not usually like this–we love the new direction!) She also has a Renew line of used clothing.

  • Porto.  Porto is a San Francisco, CA, company that makes clothes in fun technofabrics–washable and often drapey, which is good for bodies of all shapes. This tonal dress is cool. And hip.

  • Johnny Was often has interesting dresses For spring, butterflies seem right. But maybe you want something more floaty?

  • For full on color, don’t forget Gabrielle Carlson. All kinds of great pieces, including dresses, in your size! This midnight bias cut shift is soooo elegant, and for color add a peacock organza jacket! And go on a hot date!

  • Evie Lou is a store in Cleveland, OH, we have never seen in person, but have often wandered around online. It has a happening line of dresses. A pea green number is spring personified.

  • Fire Opal, in Brookline, MA, another shop we have visited only online, has some crisp dress ideas. This red and black outfit is simple and powerful.

  • When we want to go more upscale, we check Natori. Gorgeous silk dresses, like this one, floating as we walk. For a more buttoned up event, a coral eyelet dress would be calm and collected.

  • We are very fond of Issey Miyake Pleats Please with dresses in crazy shapes that somehow work perfectly–and travel perfectly too. Completely effortless. Pink goes everywhere, with everything. But you knew that.

  • Lafayette 148 is very upscale, but has some splendid dresses for spring. Stripes and poplin, perhaps?

Whether you shop or not, do window shop the colors and shapes of warmer weather. Just seeing them will put a smile on your face!
