Summer Streaming: Nine for Your Consideration.

By Erica and Karen

We are outside a lot more. But for those nights sitting around after dinner when you just want something great to watch for an hour or two, consider these:

  • Drops of God. (Apple). A fabulous 8 part series seemingly about a contest for an inheritance of a beautiful Japanese home and incomparable wine collection but actually about so much more–families and generational differences, cultures, money, love. One of our favorites.

  • Turn Every Page. (Amazon) One of the best documentaries we’ve seen about literary legends. This is the story of the 50 year relationship between Bob Caro, the author of The Power Broker and the Years of Lyndon Johnson, and his titanic editor Bob Gottlieb. The film was made by Gottlieb’s daughter and makes you care about commas and words as much as they do. It’s an important reminder of the power of words, and a tribute to those who love them.

  • A Man Called Otto. (Amazon, Apple) If you dismissed this movie as just another Hanks fluff, take a beat. Hanks is always a wonder to watch and the story about finding purpose resonates.

  • Being Mary Tyler Moore. (Max). Mary Tyler Moore was such an iconic trailblazing figure in our growing up days, but we really didn’t know how smart and thoughtful she was. This movie celebrates her life and contributions to us all.

  • The Bear (Hulu). If you loved the first season about a young chef moving from a fancy restaurant in New York to taking over his brother’s sandwich shop in Chicago, tune in to the second season coming on June 22. (Another series coming back is And Just Like That (Max) on June 23. We’re not sure…..)

  • The Diplomat. (Netflix). Keri Russell’s new turn as a diplomat with a wacky marriage who takes on the role of US ambassador to the United Kingdom. Very well played and engaging.

  • Next in Fashion. (Netflix). A fun fashion competition with Tan France and Gigi Hadid. Nothing serious, but fun to watch young designers create. Also worth watching is Queer Eye, now in its 7th season. Always amuses. 93% Rotten Tomatoes.

  • The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel. (Amazon) Just a quick note. If you thought the series ended several months ago with a video at the Friar’s Club, it didn’t. The actual end is quite lovely and hit a good note. The additional episodes were a surprise to us, so we are noting them.

And on a personal note, we are not at all sad that Succession will no longer be on the list. You?
