You Need To Know More About Generative AI. Here’s How.

By Erica and Karen

Artificial intelligence is coming to our lives. We need to understand what we can. And, of course, to show off what we know to our younger friends. Besides, it is fascinating.

We have learned that Carnegie Mellon University's School of Computer Science (SCS) has created the Generative AI Innovation Incubator to help members of the public better benefit from generative AI and identify its risks. As part of this initiative, a series of talks will take place, all of which you can tune in to, for free.

Led by faculty throughout SCS, this series of summer events will bring together people of all skill sets and experience — from experts in large language models to AI-curious community members — to shape the future of generative AI.

"The Generative AI Innovation Incubator will not only provide instruction, practice and mentored group projects, but it will also host community engagement sessions with facilitated presentations and discussion about societal issues," said Carolyn Rosé, interim director of the Language Technologies Institute and a professor of language technologies and human-computer interaction. "The goal is to shape the direction of continued work on AI toward positive societal ends."

Experts in large language models; software design; and fairness, accountability, transparency and ethics (FATE) in AI will lead sessions aimed at increasing the understanding and application of generative AI in daily life.

Many of these events will be virtual. Registration is open. We think Lustre readers will find many of these talks interesting.

For more information and to get involved, visit the Generative AI Innovation Incubator's website and sign up for updates.
